Caring for Skin After Laser Tattoo Removal

Your skin is sensitive and very easily damaged after you seek tattoo removal service. We want your skin to heal properly, without scarring, so we encourage you to follow these tips for how to care for your skin after your procedure.

Keep the Area Clean and Dry

After your tattoo removal procedure, you will want to do what you can to keep the area clean and dry. Wash the area with mild soap and water, then pat the area dry. Remember not to rub the area because you could end up causing damage. Once the area is dry, you should cover it with a sterile bandage. You may even want to apply a thin coat of antibiotic ointment before bandaging. Keep your skin bandaged for three days, changing the bandage at least once a day.

Leave Blisters Alone

Please remember that blistering is common after your Fort Lauderdale tattoo removal procedure. This is a normal part of your body’s healing process, and you should do your best not to pop the blisters. If they become overly large, you may lance the blister with a sterilized needle to let some of the fluid drain, but you will want to leave the skin on the blister and cover it with a sterile bandage after you drain it. Remember that some blisters may take on some of the color of your tattoo’s ink, and that this should not be a cause for concern.

Do Not Soak

You will need to avoid soaking the area where your tattoo was removed until all of your blistering and scabbing have healed completely. This means absolutely no baths, hot tubs or swimming pools until the blisters, if any, have healed.

Wear Sunscreen

Because your skin is so sensitive after your laser tattoo removal procedure, you will need to wear sunscreen over the area for at least two months after your treatment. Be sure that the SPF on your sunscreen is 25 or higher, and reapply the sunscreen frequently if you are outside for long periods of time.

Treat Burning and Itching

Sensations of burning and itching can be common after removing tattoos, and it can be uncomfortable. You can use a cool compress as needed to reduce sensations of burning, overall discomfort and any inflammation. Don’t apply them for longer than 15 minutes at a time and wait at least an hour before you reapply. Itching can be lessened by using Aquaphor lotion, vitamin E ointment or hydrocortisone cream to hydrate the area. Be sure not to scratch any blisters or scabbing as this can lead to scarring.
