Before you schedule an appointment to remove your tattoos, we encourage you to consider a few things:
Not All Tattoos Disappear
Unfortunately, not every tattoo is guaranteed to disappear after the first round of treatments. While the vast majority of tattoos can be completely removed, the FDA does not regulate the tattoo industry and Body Details® has no way of knowing what type of ink you have under your skin. However some inks are considered “stubborn” and are difficult to remove. Body Details is a leader in the field and is constantly conducting medical research and evaluating new laser equipment options to better treat stubborn ink tattoos. Stubborn ink tattoos may only partially fade after the treatments. Our Miami tattoo removal specialists have a pretty good understanding of how your tattoo should respond, and we will discuss our predictions with you before your procedure.
The Older the Tattoo, the Better
Your immune system and exposure to sunlight will, over time, begin to break down your tattoos on their own (though not enough to permanently remove your tattoo).
This is Why Tattoos Fade Over Time
Because your tattoo will be already partially broken down, older tattoos respond much better to tattoo laser removal than fresh tattoos.
Body Placement
Tattoos that are located farther down the arm or leg tend to fade more slowly than tattoos that are on or are closer to the torso.
Was It Professionally Done?
Did you get a tattoo from an amateur artist or a professional? Tattoos that are not professionally done are typically easier to remove and can be removed in fewer treatments as there is less ink under the skin.
Different Colors Mean Different Lasers
No single laser setting can remove all of the colors people are inked with because different dyes respond to different light wavelengths. If your tattoo is very colorful, you may have to have more treatments than if it were all one color.
Skin Can Change
When you get a tattoo, the process can scar or change your skin’s texture. Typically, this effect is hidden by the ink while you have the tattoo, but once it is removed, you may find that your skin has changed.
Sunscreen Helps
If you’re planning a tattoo removal, we recommend that you start using sunscreen right away. Laser treatments can darken or lighten your skin’s pigmentation near your tattoo, so we encourage our patients to do what they can to minimize changes in their skin pigment including letting tans fade and using sunscreen before the procedure. You will also need to wear sunscreen after each tattoo removal treatment.
Immediate Darkening
Cosmetic tattoos, especially certain lip liners, may darken immediately after you undergo the laser skin tattoo removal process. Further treatment will typically correct this effect, but it may be best to test a small spot before trying to remove the whole tattoo.
Allergies
If you experienced any kind of allergic reaction when you got your tattoo, you need to tell your technician before you get tattoo removal in South Florida. Lasers break up the ink within your skin, and when that ink enters your bloodstream, it can cause you to have a more serious allergic reaction.
