What to Do Before and after Laser Facial Hair Removal

Our team will provide you with detailed instructions for how to prepare and care for the area you are treating after your laser sessions. It is essential that you avoid waxing or plucking any hair in the treatment area at least two weeks prior to your first session, though you may continue shaving. We may request that you avoid using specific beauty products or skincare treatments, especially in the 24-48 hours directly before treatment begins. This is so we can best assess your skin to administer the most effective treatment. After each treatment session, it is important to continue refraining from plucking or waxing. Hair growth between sessions is normal as we work to eliminate any follicle that remains after each session. You may continue to shave. Following each session, we advise that you avoid direct sun exposure as your skin will be more sensitive during this time.

Short-Term Side Effects

It is common to experience mild, short-term side effects immediately following a treatment session. These side-effects will subside fairly quickly and are no cause for concern. Our patients' most frequently reported the side effects include a slight tingling or snapping sensation in the treatment area. You may notice redness in the area after treatment. Is Treatment Painful?

Prior to your treatment, your professional laser technician will advise you on what to do and what to avoid prior to each session. Here are a few of the things you can do to prepare for your appointments:

• Don’t Pluck or Wax – While these activities won’t destroy the hair follicles, the laser works by targeting the hair shaft and sending pulses of light through it. Plucking and waxing can interfere with this process.
• Do Shave – Shaving 24 to 48 hours prior to treatment will still allow enough of the hair shaft for the laser to target but will also reduce the chance of skin burn and irritation.
• Avoid Cosmetic Products – Do not put on makeup or use creams on the day of treatment. If you have any residual makeup on from the day before, make sure to clean your face thoroughly with soap and water.

Just as there are certain measures you should take prior to your appointment, aftercare is also important. Here is how you can take care of your face after a facial laser hair removal treatment:

• Wear Sunscreen – Even if you don’t have outdoor plans, the incidental sun your face gets can cause irritation after treatment. Wear an SPF 15 sunscreen and reapply it as necessary.
• Avoid Hot Showers, Baths, Steamrooms, and Saunas – Opening your pores can cause irritation. Avoid these activities for 24 hours.
• Don’t Wear Cosmetics – Cosmetics are another element that can adversely affect your skin. Avoid makeup and creams for two or three days after your treatment.
